To interact while working as an ensemble by producing a 3 minute commercial.

Divide students into groups of six. Give them the following instructions:
1. Each team will present a 3 minute commercial. Each member must take the responsibility for a 30 second speaking assignment. The team will brainstorm topics that would appeal to them and their audience. They should choose a topic on which they can speak easily.
2. Student #1 will introduce the product by an exciting 30 sec. audience-arousing opening.
3. Student #2 will compose a 30 sec. dialouge that informs the audience a the purpose of the product.
4. Student #3 must give an example or cite a personal experience that tells how successful the product is.
5. Student #4 must compare this product to another similar product on the market. He/she must explain why THIS product is better.
6. Student #5 is the "product". He/she may pantomime or speak "IN CHARACTER" to fill the 30 secs.
7. Student #6 summarizes the highlights of the commercial, or he/she may give the final appeal to the audience. It is his/her opportunity to sell the product.
Lastly, the entire group will sing/act/dance a jingle about the product. This will carry past the 3 minute requirement. it should also be 30 seconds in length.
COACHING TIPS- Make sure students understand their responsibilities. Did each member aid the group and move the commercial forward to a conclusion? Did members listen to each other and appear interested in the product? How close did each student stay to the 30 second guideline? Did the jingle really represent and explain the product?
