Instructions

Step 1: Discuss with the students what it is like being interviewed. What was it like to recall memories? How was it to try to discover how you think and feel about certain things?

Step 2: Turn out the lights and play the music.

Step 3: Tell them they are to think about the characters they will be portraying in the monologues they have chosen. They must not think of the characters as somebody else, however, they must think of the characters as if they were themselves. Again have them just think about their [character's] childhood, family, friends, experiences, etc.

Step 4: Now they must perform the interviews as their character rather than themselves, asking the same types of questions.

Step 5: Discuss with the students their experience with this. What did it feel like to answer questions as a different person? Did you really feel like you were that person? How well do you know your character now compared to before the exercise?
