Description
The game requires both exchanging and transforming energy by blending with your fellow players as a ball of energy is thrown amoungst the group. Its about being in the moment, keeping open, grounded and free as well as being aware of your surroundings and articulating. You must be aware of the energy sent, available to the energy - allowing it to change you, and you must be articulate in sending the energy back out.
Materials
Space Required
Standard RoomInstructions
1) Set up 5-10 players in a circle and sound/send out/"cast a spell" upon another actor (emit energy). [For example, you might shoot out your arms and cry, "blah!" towards someone across from you].
2) When a "spell" is cast on you, receive the "spell" as it was sent to you with a sound and movement (assimilate the energy). [For example, you might feel the "spell" hit you in the chest, sending you slightly backwards with a yelp].
3) Transform the energy with sound and movement - that is, allow the energy received to travel through your body and voice, like a bolt of electricity or a shiver, and let it change. [For example, you might begin to shake and a high-pitched whine that transforms into a low growl].
4) Send out a different "spell" to another actor using your full voice and body.
- For fun, imagine you are a sorcerer, witch, warlock, or other magical creature as you begin the game.
- Be sure to focus on each part of the exercise as well as utilizing full range of sound of movement.
- Concentrate on using different parts of your body and voice.
Adaptations
Advance Levels:
- Oppositional Spells: receive an "evil" spell and transform it into a "good" spell.
- Spells in Rhythm: instead of random vocalization, actors cast spells using rhythm like scat singing. The actor must then modify the rhythm without abandoning it completely.
- Spells with Text: using words, phrases or whole sentences from a text. Initially, use text you are working on, but later whole scenes may be played in casting spells.
