Full Lesson Plan
Enter onto the set in character. Make sure you have some type of character appropriate physical activity to pursue at the beginning. This will help to ground you and keep you focused.
Simply go through the specific stories - the mental movies - that you have created. In order to play your role successfully, you need a specific series of uninterrupted mental images that lead you through the play.
You are exploring your imagination through your character's givens. The more you are able to defend your choice is.
Art = Specifics; General = Junk. How can we as actors fully believe in something that is generalized? SPECIFICS. Our senses are the keys to our emotions. When you work on, and present, your character work, you must work specifically through your senses.
We should see the four strong character specifc adjectives (that we agreed upon when we began our work on, and present, your character work, you must work specifically through your senses.
We should see the four strong character specific adjectives (that we agreed upon when we began our work on the play) surface in the character exercise.
It is as if you were sitting down with your best friend and they ask you, "So what's up? Why are you so ___________ (shy, terrifedm intense, etc.)?"
When you are working, do not rush. Take your time and examine all images fully.
You must be there... not simply commenting on or just looking back at a story.
Don't push or force. Trust the strong images that you have created. Remember, you cannot control nor will your emotions to happen. It's the conscience approach to making your sub-conscience react. You work to trigger your emotional response through the inner work - the character work - that you have done. Trust it. If an emotion happens, fine. If not fine. The specific inner work is what you are going for - not an emotion. Anyone can make water come out of their eyes - that's nohting. It's the specific mental images you are reliving that are important.
I can't wait for you to experience this. It is always the most moving rehearsal of the entire process - provided that everyone WORKS.
