Description
“You can do anything for 15 minutes.”
-FlyLady.net
In the theatre, we have so many areas to keep track of that we sometimes feel like maintenance workers rather than the creative artists we are. We can’t do it all ourselves, but how do we get the kids involved?
Materials
- Sticky-notes

Full Lesson Plan
My answer, through FlyLady’s tutelage, is writing specific tasks on sticky-notes and timed tasks.
Organize the one-act play shelves.
Sort the screw bucket.
Put the loose bits away in the costume shop.
Clean mirrors in the dressing rooms.
Whatever you need done.
Assign them; tell them how long they have to work at it.
Never longer than 15 minutes. Resentment levels went way down; cooperation rose.
We work for 15 minutes; then move on the day’s work. As the semester progresses, so do the kids in their efficiency and willingness to take care of the theatre.
I even time myself during my conference period. I wear a stop watch on my lanyard, and I use it all through the day.
