This activity occurs after a thorough explanation and discussion of what subtext is.

Two actors are assigned a simple improvisational scene. Two other actors will speak the "subtext" of each actor. After Actor A says his or her improvised line, the "subtext" actor for Actor A gives the subtext for that line (or lines). Then Actor B does the same, as does the "subtext" actor for Actor B.
