Full Lesson Plan
Individually, students orally and physically interpret a short poem. They must use non-literal movement in their physical communication of the work.
Goal – To encourage students to broaden their intellectual and physical expression of written works of art.
Example: If the poem is “Susie bounced the ball, bounced the ball, bounced the ball against the wall.” They may use any movement to represent bouncing the ball, but they cannot pretend to bounce the ball.
Some of the poets whose work I use include Langston Hughes, Eve Merriam, Gwendolyn Brooks, William Stanley Braithwaite, Judith Viorst and John Henrik Clarke.
