Description

The students will learn to sing and chant several nursery rhymes: Jack Be Nimble, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Old Mother Hubbard. The students will act out the rhymes with costumes and props in small groups and as individuals.

Full Lesson Plan

1. The teacher will introduce each song/rhyme to the class.

2. The students will perform each one as a class several times until they have it momeorized and feel comfortable performing the song.

3. The teacher will talk about reader's theater where a group or person will narrate or say the rhyme while others acti it out. First the actors will pantomime as they act. 

4. The teacher will divide the class into groups. Each group will be assigned a rhyme. They may choose items from the costume and prop box for their dramaztization. 

5. The teacher will review performer and audience etiquette including when to applaud, bow and also review what are appropriate responses. 

6. As the class chants the rhyme, each group will have the opportunity to dramatize it. 

7. Individual students will be given the opportunity to recite a rhyme and dramatize it. 

8. The class will give positive feedback to each individual performer.
