Full Lesson Plan

- Organize a trip to the Orchard House Museum in Concord, Massachusetts (399 Lexington Road) where Louisa May Alcott was inspired to write the book Little Women and many others. It offers tours with characters in role, writing workshops and much more.

- Locate a Civil War re-enactor such as Abraham Lincoln and have him make an appearance at a rehearsal to discuss teh role of women during the Civil War and interesting ways to act in a different time period.

- Have the students write journal entries or fantasy stories like Jo March did in Little Woman. Display their writing samples with their headshots in a lobby etc.

- Purchase a small chest or box in which students can write notes to each other in character. Place the labeled notes in the box and arrange a mail delivery at the end of each rehearsal. The notes must be written in character such as Laurie to Jo or Jo to Beth.

- Teach Virginia Reel or a square dance to the cast. Incorporate the dance into warm-ups and then the song Five-Forever.
