I am the one who memorized the local dance studio's phone number when I was 5 years old and bugged my parents to let me take classes - daily - I was finally allowed when I was 8. I sang for anyone who would listen. We performed musicals in our back yard underneath the clothesline (because you could hang a curtain).
In high school I was accepted into our school district's Fine Arts Center its inaugural year as a voice student, then later as a drama student. What fun we had!
In college I took a turn at outdoor drama (Cross and Sword - St. Augustine FL) while cutting my teeth on as many musicals as I could at the local community theatres.
As a mother of two teenage sons, I spend a lot of my time on the fringe of their activities - especially swimming. They both compete for their high schools and summer league. One also swims year round. My alter ego is as a USA certified swimming official - I am the one who observes the swimmers to make sure they are doing their stroke legally. Really not that far from working with choreography!
I am married (26 years) to a wonderful man - we met when I was in a show and he was in charge of pulling the curtain. He has also run spotlights for productions and has helped build sets. God Bless him!
Although I don't perform as much as I once did, I still look for the right opportunity to stretch my theatre skills. I am a firm believer that when you have been given a talent, you have been entrusted to grow it to the best of your ability and to pass it along to others.
