Bio
Born and raised in Miami, FL. My parents frequently wanted to return me to the Children's Home Society for an "earth child", since a mistake had surely been made.
I knew at age 3, standing on the stage of an old theatre, that I was born to be there, and I've never looked back.
Worked in theatre all through school, and in community and professional productions since age 12.
Lived in a yellow VW van in Europe and North Africa for a few years - hey, it was the 70's!!! All thoughout Europe people said, "you must be from California", so I decided I must be, and moved to Berkeley and SF in '73. Studied with Jean Shelton and Berkeley Rep and established American Fantasy Theatre, a professional touring theatre for family productions.
Children's theatre - and adapting stories with meaninful, social justice themes, has always been my greatest passion, so returning to Miami in the late '80's, I went into educational theatre and have been here since.
I love teaching and also working with adults around the country (through the National School Reform Faculty) on building and sustaining professional learning communities, and using the power of theatre to reach and teacher 21st century learners.
Most of all, I like watching kids find their uinque voices and blossom before my eyes.
