Bio
I started teaching drama while still in college, as a theater major. My university's program offered high school theater summer workshops, which I was hired to teach. I began performing as a musician, then a vocalist, and finally as an actress. I was solidly active in community theater from 1975-1995, playing various roles and directing music, plays, and musicals. After my 1995 divorce, I retired from community theater, until this spring when I saw the announcement for "Hello, Dolly" -- I auditioned and got the part of Dolly Levi. What a cherry role! It was a wonderful experience, and very reaffirming after a 15 year hiatus from the stage.
I love improvisation in the classroom. I am proud to say that a number of my former students are currently professional actors, and many of my colleagues and peers continue their successful careers in theater. In fact, one of my oldest friends works for the LaJolla Playhouse -- winner of the several 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Original Musical.
Finally, I love Shakespeare. I've been writing scholarly, dramaturgic, and marketing articles for the Utah Shakespearean Festival since 1987. They won the 2000 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater, and I'm proud of my long-standing affiliation with this amazing body of artists. (www.bard.org). Come to Utah, if you want to see regional theater at its best!
