Bio

I work at Xavier High School, a Catholic prep school in Appleton, WI (about 100 miles north of Milwaukee).  Although for six years I produced shows in a cafetorium setting, a fine arts wing, including a 750-seat proscenium theatre complete with flies, scene shop and dressing rooms was donated to our school by a single family in 1998.

Although we are not a fine arts school, many students enroll at Xavier because of our strong fine arts programs.  In addition to the usual musical and straight show combinations, I direct a huge Christmas revue, which raises about 65K per year for the fine arts program, and an Easter pageant, which raises an additional 10K for tuition assistance.   Additionally, our drama teacher directs two or three one-act children's shows each year (we have block scheduling which really helps in producing the one-acts). We also produce a Freshman play (usually a one act or series of one-acts) which are open only to members of that class.

Favorite theatrical moment

So many onstage moments...but I love looking back at the bare stage after a strike. Ah! The possibilities.

Sondheim or Rodgers and Hammerstein?

Rodgers and Hammerstein

Interests

I love to travel, especially to New York. I used to live in the Chicago area and travel there often to visit friends and savor the fantastic theatre scene there. I also advise a few community theatres in our area and, occasionally serve as lighting designer for them. Ive also written a children's show about Johnny Appleseed which has played at a tourist destination near Milwaukee for the past 15 years.

Something you should know about me!

I have strong opinions

Accomplishments

Developing a program strong enought that dozens of students volunteer to work during the summer and will choose a sport that does not conflict with their theatre schedule.

Upcoming Projects

"Oklahoma!" I love lots of more modern shows but students should perform a classic like this at least once in their high school career.
